PHOTOS FROM THE LAPL FALL 2011 CAMP OUT
FRIDAY-SUNDAY
OCTOBER 21-23, 2011
PALMETTO ISLAND STATE PARK
What a beautiful weekend for camping! Especially at one of the most unique state parks in the country. Three LAPL families participated: the Roy, Justice, and Mills clans, along with an array of raccoons, armadilli, one bold baby alligator, and more than one mosquito.
Friday night, after setting up camp and building fires, the star gazing enthusiasts brought out their gear to view Jupiter and some of her moons. A camping neighbor showed us the app on his iPhone, which named the planets and constellations. It turned into quite a party.
The next morning, LAPL's first Palmetto Island Fishing Rodeo was a fiercely competitive event, with the winner getting to name and kiss her fish. Afterwards, there was eating (mainly the Roys' excellent cooking), football, pecan cracking, whiffle ball, relaxing and visiting.
We hope the next time you'll be able to join us, even if it's just for a few hours. Check out the pictures below.
This year, LAPL would like to offer something different for its members and their families. No business, just relaxing fun and a chance to get away for the weekend to one of South Louisiana’s newest and most beautiful venues: Palmetto Island State Park.
Bring your camper or your tent, your wife and/or your kids, even your pets! You can stay all weekend, one night, or visit for the day. We’ve reserved 5 adjacent camping spaces (C1064-C1068, North Owl Prowl turnaround). Each person/family is responsible for their own food and shelter. (Unfortunately, all cabins have been reserved for this weekend.)
Check out the website to see a map of the park, photos of the beautiful, new cabins and everything else PISP has to offer. http://www.crt.state.la.us/parks/ipalmetto.ASPX.
Directions: From I-10 in Lafayette, take Exit 100 south onto LA 3184/Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Turn right onto US 167/Johnston Street, continuing into Abbeville. Take LA 82 to Perry (the bridge is open now), turning left onto LA 690 (Port of Vermilion sign), then right onto Pleasant Drive. Follow it down to the entrance of Palmetto Island Park.
