As many of you are already aware, the primary mission of the AAPL is to improve the professional lives of the thousands of men and women across the country engaged in land work. The AAPL accomplishes that in many ways. NAPE and Summer NAPE serve the vital function of bringing together all of the parties necessary to get prospects funded and executed. Certification and education ensure that our profession maintains a high level of knowledge and ethical standards. Representation in Washington D.C. and the various states guards against legislation that can be harmful to the industry. Networking opportunities allow us to establish valuable business contacts and learn from others’ experiences.
A significant development recently was the decision by the board to split NAPE from the AAPL (from an operations standpoint only), which will enhance each organization’s ability to focus on their respective missions. Robin Forte will continue his fine job of heading up NAPE, while a to-be-determined individual will take over the remaining functions of the AAPL. An executive search is currently underway, with over 20 viable candidates having already expressed interest.
This year’s NAPE will be held February 10-12, right around the corner, and I encourage everyone to attend. There seems to be a lot of optimism in the industry in regard to 2010 activity levels, and the general mood at NAPE will be a good indicator of the validity of that impression.
We are fortunate to have Mr. Rimmer Covington, current President of the AAPL, as speaker for the January 22 LAPL luncheon. He has done a great job as President, and I expect those in attendance to enjoy his presentation. He’s a good ole Mississippi landman who looks forward to meeting and speaking with our fine LAPL members. I hope you can make it!
Please feel free to direct any questions or issues regarding the AAPL to me directly at 337-231-5877 or BJustice@TotaLand.com.
